David Rey successively obtained the first prize for virtuosity with honours from the jury in 2001, the orchestral diploma in 2002, and the teaching diploma in 2003 at the Geneva Conservatory of Music.
After his debut as a trainee musician with the Biel Orchestra (2001-2002), he held the position of principal trombone of the Durban Orchestra (South Africa) from 2003 whilst continuing to regular participate in the Orchestra of the Verbier Festival (2002-2007). During this period, he also taught at the University of Natal (South Africa). On his return from Africa, the opera of Malmö (Sweden) offered him an interim position. In 2008, he won the solo trombone competition at the Brussels Philharmonic, and he currently divides his orchestral activity between Brussels and Switzerland where he regularly collaborates with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.
David Rey is passionate about all areas of music and performs as a soloist with diverse instruments and ensembles: piano, organ, brass bands, woodwind ensembles, chamber orchestras, symphony orchestras and trombone ensembles. David Rey is also a chamber musician and collaborates with the Geneva Brass Quintet. He is also the dedicatee of several contemporary works and has himself created several new scores and transcriptions for trombone. Since 2014, David has been a Bach artist.
An experienced teacher, he enjoys passing on his knowledge to young musicians. He commenced teaching at the age of 17 at local schools and music academies before continuing with this profession internationally. Currently, his main teaching activity is giving masterclasses.
